Recently, students at Stanford University in the United States invented an adhesive pad that allows people to climb glass walls like a gecko. Geckos are nature’s miraculous climbers, and the “gecko gloves” invented by American students use the same scientific principles as the slimy soles of their feet. These students are discussing cooperation with toy companies.

According to Elliot Hawkes, who participated in the study: “The important feature of the gecko adhesive is that it is controllable, just like you can put the tape on when you need it and take it off when you don’t.”

A Swiss entrepreneur is scheduled to meet with a research team in January next year to discuss whether this technology can be applied to rock climbing. The research team also has a project with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory to develop improved “gecko gloves” that could help astronauts grab items in space.
