Whether you are selling clothing or a fabric supplier, understanding fabrics is the foundation of a textile person. Today, let’s talk about the advantages and disadvantages of common clothing fabrics.

1. Pure wool

Advantages: warm, breathable, hygroscopic, good elasticity, good plasticity, shiny, soft to the touch and good drape!

Disadvantages: easy to shrink, not resistant to alkali and acid, afraid of sunlight, prone to moths.

2. Cashmere

Advantages: The best kind of animal fiber, good toughness, light, soft and warm , strong elasticity, good hygroscopicity, and good perspiration wicking effect.

Disadvantages: Pilling, static electricity, poor wrinkle resistance

3. Silk

Advantages: Very good moisture absorption and breathability, good acid and heat resistance, good dyeability, soft texture, smooth and layered.

Disadvantages: poor wrinkle resistance, afraid of sun exposure, shrinkage

4. Cotton

Advantages: sunlight resistance, heat resistance, alkali resistance, dyeability, good hygroscopicity, softness, and good dyeability.

Disadvantages: poor elasticity, shrinkage, and poor wrinkle resistance.

5. Linen

Advantages: better acid resistance than cotton, good moisture absorption and dyeability, and fast moisture dissipation

Disadvantages: alkali resistance, easy to wrinkle, shrinkage

6. Cotton fiber (nylon)

Advantages: elasticity, hygroscopicity, good dyeability, easy to wash and quick-drying, alkali-resistant but not acid-resistant, sanitary balls should not be placed during storage, and abrasion resistance is the best among all fibers currently.

Disadvantages: yellowing in the sun, easy to pill, poor light resistance

7. Polyester (polyester fiber)

Advantages: wear-resistant, good elasticity, good deformation resistance, easy to wash and quick-drying, no ironing required.

Disadvantages: Pilling, poor hygroscopicity. Commonly used blended fabrics include: polyester-cotton, wool-polyester.

8. Acrylic fiber (polyacrylonitrile fiber)

Advantages: good elasticity and warmth, soft and fluffy, easy to dye, Resistant to sunlight, mildew and moth, good corrosion resistance, easy to wash and quick dry

Disadvantages: poor wear resistance, poor hygroscopicity.

9. Spandex (Lycra)

Advantages: good elasticity, sweat-resistant, acid and alkali resistant, dry-cleaning and wear-resistant, Lightweight and soft.

Disadvantages: prone to static electricity

10. Viscose fiber

Advantages: soft, good drape, good dyeability and hygroscopicity, easy to wash and quick to dry.

Disadvantages: shrinkage, deformation, not wear-resistant, afraid of sunlight.
