Dai brocade is a folk handicraft popular among the Dai people. As early as the Tang Dynasty, there were records of tribute to the court. Today, the main production areas are the Pingba area of the river valleys and the Jinsha River Basin in Dehong, Xishuangbanna and other places in Yunnan where the Dai people have lived for generations. A national intangible cultural heritage announced by the State Council in 2008.
Dai brocade is an ancient traditional handmade textile handicraft with exquisite craftsmanship, bright colors and unique patterns. It has local ethnic characteristics. The iconic colors are red, green, white, Black and other colors. The process requirements are also very strict. Weft threads are usually used for patterning. During weaving, the pattern tissue is tied to the “pattern board” with thin ropes. The movement of the hand pedal is used to make the warp threads form an upper and lower layer before weft insertion is started. This cycle is repeated repeatedly, and finally a beautiful Dai brocade is woven. To design a Dai brocade, hundreds to thousands of strings are needed to express it on the “pattern board”.
Today, Dai brocade craftsmanship has been developed and improved on the basis of inheriting tradition. In addition to making daily necessities such as skirts, bags, quilts, and curtains, we also design and produce new varieties such as Dai brocade screens and sofa cushions. Their bright colors and magnificent patterns are loved by people at home and abroad.
How to wash Dai brocade
Dai brocade is divided into cotton brocade and silk brocade. The washing method is as follows:
1. Most brocades, including Dai brocade, are not suitable for washing due to the layering process of warp and weft lines. It is better to use gentle dry cleaning and a skilled craftsman. It can also be washed by hand, otherwise shrinkage will easily occur.
2. Brocade fabrics are generally afraid of alkali and high temperatures, and their strength decreases when soaked. If cleaned by hand, first dip a cotton swab into the insurance powder solution on the stained area. Remove carefully, then wash with gentle pressure using neutral or special detergent.
3. In order to protect the luster of the brocade, after rinsing, take a basin of water, drop a small amount of white vinegar into the water, and soak it for a few minutes to neutralize the detergent on the fabric. Residue.
4. After washing, avoid twisting. Spread it flat on a large bath towel, roll it up and squeeze out the water, or hang it in a cool and ventilated place to dry. Do not expose to sunlight or drying.
5. Iron when it is 80% dry. Ironing should not be done at high temperatures and cannot be ironed directly. It must be covered with a pad before ironing to prevent high temperature damage and aurora.
