Forget traditional Kevlar body armor, new body armor will provide unprecedented protection! Traditional Kevlar body armor is very bulky and very hot when worn. Currently, a newly developed body armor uses liquid material. When a bullet hits the liquid body armor, it hardens, providing unprecedented protection. Allows warriors to move freely without the constraints of bulky body armor.

Kevlar body armor using ceramic plates can cover more areas of the human body, but due to the heavy weight of this body armor, it greatly reduces the soldier’s mobility, flexibility and movement speed. In addition, in battlefields such as Iraq and Afghanistan, soldiers often endure temperatures close to 49 degrees Celsius, while wearing bulky body armor also increases physical fatigue.

Currently, the global defense aerospace security company – British BAE Systems has developed a new liquid super gel material body armor, which means that this body armor will provide soldiers with lighter weight and more flexible body defense measures in the future. .

The liquid gel, which can be placed between layers of Kevlar, is about five times more resistant to bullets than steel, yet half the weight of regular body armor and much thinner.

Liquid body armor uses shear thickening liquid (ShearThickeningLiquid), which contains special particles that can be freely suspended. When the liquid is disturbed by bullet attacks, these special particles will collide and form resistance to this disturbance.

When this disturbance force is large enough, the particles will actually “lock” together. Therefore, when a bullet hits the body armor at a certain speed, the liquid body armor will absorb the collision energy and become very strong in a short period of time. When an external force hits the shear thickening liquid device slowly, a small amount of resistance will be felt, while a faster external force will feel an increase in resistance.

This special liquid material can also be combined with traditional Kevlar body armor. When combined with the liquid material, the Kevlar body armor has strong flexibility and is 45% thinner than existing types of body armor. At the same time, the liquid gel can also limit the loosening of the yarn of the Kevlar body armor and disperse the collision energy.

When a bullet hits a body armor, traditional body armor usually bends inward. Although it can prevent death, it often causes severe injury and pain. Liquid body armor prevents painful contusions, damage to internal organs and broken ribs by dispersing the force of a bullet’s impact.

A test video released by the BAE Systems Technology Center shows that a 9 mm caliber pistol fired bullets into a 10-layer Kevlar body armor combined with liquid materials, and then compared it to a 31-layer Kevlar body armor without added liquid materials.

After the liquid body armor is hit by a bullet, the impact force will spread to a wider area, which means that the bullet attack force is not concentrated in a small area, thus greatly reducing the probability of soldiers being injured or killed.

The weight of ordinary body armor using standard ceramic plates is about 25 pounds. The weight of liquid body armor is only an increase of the former, which means that the battlefield load of soldiers is reduced and combat effectiveness can be more fully exerted.
