If you are someone who is familiar with sports competitions, you will probably be familiar with this scene: between games, athletes would pour a bottle of water over their heads. This is not done to be cool, but to quickly cool down the body, calm the mind, and save energy.

However, although this simple method is useful, it is not efficient. In order to help athletes adjust their body functions better and faster, Nike’s Sports Research Laboratory (NSRL) has recently made some achievements in improving cooling efficiency. It is a strange helmet that can quickly cool down and promote recovery-but also No headaches caused by cooling too quickly.

It is like a swimming cap with some mesh on the surface as ventilation openings. The openings at the ears are designed to allow athletes to hear the cheers of the crowd and avoid feeling like they are in a claustrophobic tunnel after putting on the helmet.

This is not the first time Nike has developed equipment to meet the cooling needs of athletes. In 2004, Nike designed the pre-cooling vest (PreCoolVest) which won high praise from the participants of the Athens Olympic Games at that time. After wearing it, it quickly dissipated heat and maintained coolness before the marathon or hockey game, retaining more energy for the athletes. , thus gaining an advantage in the next game.

The competition experience of Ashton Eaton, the American Olympic champion and decathlon world record holder, gave part of the inspiration for this helmet. His own head also became the design prototype of the first-generation helmet. The intense sport of decathlon requires the maximum use of every controllable factor, and temperature is important. “When I ask myself: Why does pouring water on your head make you feel better after a run? It’s hard to answer that physiologically, but you actually perform better when you calm down.”
